NSU drops midweek battle in Edmond

Northeastern State will play four games in four days as the team heads to St. Charles

EDMOND, Okla. – The Northeastern State baseball team lost 7-3 to Central Oklahoma Wednesday afternoon at Simmons Field.
 
Both the RiverHawks (23-19, 17-15 MIAA) and Bronchos (25-18, 17-15 MIAA) are now tied for seventh in the MIAA standings with six games remaining in the regular season.
 
NSU finished with eight hits in the game, with two each coming from senior Eric Kirkpatrick and junior Dakota Woods. Kirkpatrick hit his 10th home run of the season and also scored twice.
 
UCO finished with 13 hits with three coming off the bat of Trae Smith. Jacob Borrego, Korey Floyd and T.J. Sparr all had two hits to hand the RiverHawks their first loss in midweek MIAA play this season.
 
Junior Bobby Sehgal started on the mound for NSU and left with a no-decision after allowing three runs on six hits in 3.1 innings. Junior Tyler Yancey (2-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs on three hits in 2.2 frames. Senior Jake Kern and true freshman James Cowell combined to finish out the remaining two innings.
 
Austin Stewart made it just 2.2 innings for the Bronchos before being pulled for Greg Hyde (4-1). He threw 5.1 frames and earned the win after conceding just one run on two hits.
 
NSU will now play a three-game series against Lindenwood in St. Charles, Missouri. The green and white will play four games in four days as the series with the Lions was pushed up to start at 7 p.m. April 28. The series was originally slated to begin April 29 but was moved up a day due to inclement weather in the latter stages of the weekend forecast.
