The Series
The RiverHawks and Pitt State have met 72 times over the last 90 years with the Gorillas holding a 50-22 series lead.  In Tahlequah, NSU trails 16-13 but has won three of their last four meetings with PSU.  Northeastern State has traveled to Pittsburg for four straight times and was winless during that span.  The RiverHawks last win (61-60) over the Gorillas came on Feb. 19, 2014 at the NSU Event Center.

The Coaches
Mark Downey was introduced as NSU's tenth men's basketball coach on April 11, 2017 and carries a 210-116 overall head coaching record, with four NCAA Division II Tournament Appearances, and has been named Coach of the Year six times.  Downey comes to NSU after two seasons at Fort Wayne (NCAA DI) as the program's top assistant on the bench, and has helped the Mastodons to appearances in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) and the NIT, while going 44-23.  Prior to Fort Wayne, Downey spent the 2014-15 season at Bowling Green where they went 20-12, and he helped direct them into the second round of the CIT.

Kim Anderson (12-8 at PSU) is in his first season leading the Gorillas. Anderson (Missouri, '79) became the Gorillas' 15th all-time head coach on Apr. 10, 2017, after coaching the past three seasons at his alma mater–the University of Missouri. He has a 311-170 record in 16 seasons as a collegiate head coach, including the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship as head coach at the University of Central Missouri.

Last Time Out for NSU
Lucas Antunez's career night powered the RiverHawks to a 78-48 win over Missouri Southern at the NSU Event Center on Wednesday evening.  Northeastern State throttled the Lions in the second half scoring 22 unanswered points for RiverHawks' largest margin of victory between the two programs.  Antunez only played 18 minutes off the NSU bench and was nearly flawless on each shot, making seven of his nine attempts.  The NSU senior paced all scorers on the floor with 22 points and he added six rebounds.   Jamir Andrews and Montre' Williams were also both in double-figures with 13 and 12 points.

Last Time Out for Pitt State
Marquis Johnson hit a 3-pointer with one second remaining in regulation to lift Central Oklahoma men's basketball team to a 91-88 victory over Pitt State Thursday at Hamilton Field House.  The Bronchos battled back from a six-point deficit, 81-75, with 6:06 to play in the game. UCO used an 8-0 run to turn the deficit into a two-point advantage, on a pair of free throws by Johnson with 4:06 to go.

Game 100
The next time Montre' Williams steps on the floor for the RiverHawks it will be 100th time he will do so.   Williams has been a fixture in NSU's starting lineup making 47 consecutive appearances.

Blowout
The 30 point win on Jan. 24 (78-48) was the largest for Northeastern State against a MIAA member institution, since joining the league at the start of the 2012-13 season.  In five seasons inside the NSU Event Center, the win is the largest against a NCAA Division II program, and fourth largest so far.

Coaches vs. Cancer // Suits & Sneakers Week
In both home contests this week, the Northeastern State coaching staff will wear sneakers with their game attire as a visible reminder about the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing cancer risk.  The Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers Week, January 23-29, 2017, is a nationwide event that unites coaches across the country to raise awareness about the American Cancer Society's lifesaving mission, and promote the American Cancer Society as a place for help and support.

Up next
Northeastern State will travel to Southwest Baptist next on Feb. 1 for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
