TAHLEQUAH -- NSU's
Aitana Hernandez defeated Marybeth Bellnap from Rogers State on the first playoff hole on Tuesday afternoon to win the 21st annual NSU Classic at Cherokee Springs Golf Course. Rogers State won the team championship over Henderson State and Oklahoma Christian.
This is the seventh time an NSU golfer has won the tournament. The last one to do so was
Baylee Price in 2016.
Hernandez shot a score of 75 on Tuesday to finish the tournament at 147, tied for the lead. She shot a four on the first playoff hole to win the tournament. Teammate
Kaylee Petersen finished tied for ninth with a two-day total of 154 (77-77).
Karlei Hemler finished tied for 26th with a two-day total of 157 (81-76) while
Kelly Swanson finished tied for 32nd at 158 (82-76).
Nina Lee finished tied for 46th at 165 (85-80). NSU finished with a team score of 616 (312-304), just seven strokes behind Rogers State.
NSU ended the tournament tied for the lowest score on par-three holes, with Hernandez recording the only eagle of the tournament. NSU also made 104 pars, second behind Rogers State.
The NSU women will next be in action on Sept. 23-24 at the MIAA Preview, held at Awarii Dunes Golf Course in Axtell, Neb.
