TAHLEQUAH – The NSU Softball team will open MIAA play this weekend with a pair of road matchups. They will open the weekend Friday at 2 p.m. when they face Central Oklahoma and will face Newman on Saturday at 2 p.m. Both games will be doubleheaders, with game two starting shortly after game one.
Leading Off
1. The RiverHawks are bringing a 12-6 record into the weekend and last competed at the Drury Invitational, where they went 2-3, with a 2-1 win over Drury and an 11-4 win over Wayne State. In the game against the Wildcats,
Cameron Conrad and
Sierra Crick both pushed their reached base streak to 15 games, while Crick matched the MIAA record for walks in a game with five.

Sierra Crick leads the RiverHawks at the plate, batting .435 with four doubles and 11 runs batted in.
Addie Elbon is batting .339 on the season with a team-high four home runs and 15 runs batted in.
Gail Young has been the leader on the mound, with a record of 8-2. She has thrown 67 innings, recording 59 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.36.
Brittany Beaudet has made six appearances in the circle, posting an ERA of 1.68 with six strikeouts and a 2-1 record.
3. The Bronchos are 10-11 on the season, and haven't played since Feb. 23, when they ended the UCO-OC Festival with an 11-8 loss to St. Mary's. UCO is on a three-game losing streak coming into this weekend's action. Hazel Puempel is one of two Bronchos who have a batting average over .400, as she brings a .468 batting average into the matchup. Brighton Gilbert is batting .432 on the season, with two doubles and four runs batted in. Kylee Lynch is one of the two most-used pitchers, with a record of 5-3 and an ERA of 1.88 in 59.2 innings pitched. Corrina Rivas is 4-6 on the season, with 43 strikeouts in 64 innings pitched.
4. The Jets will bring a 6-13 record into the weekend, and will host Rogers State on Friday afternoon before facing NSU. They are coming off a doubleheader split with McPherson, where they lost game one 11-3 before winning the second game 9-5. Lacey Colvin leads Newman with a .444 batting average and 16 runs batted in. Bailey Bugner has 20 runs batted in to go along with her .339 batting average and four home runs. In the circle, Anna Veltien is 5-5 on the season, having thrown 49.2 innings, recording 16 strikeouts and posting an ERA of 3.66.
