ST. JOSEPH, Mo. --
Yasmin Hang won her second medalist title in her young career at Northeastern State as they finished runner Tuesday at the Holiday Inn Express Classic, carding a two-round total of 648 (328-320).
The RiverHawks have finished third or better in all four tournaments played this spring and with this week's event serving as a good test for the team with the St. Joseph Country Club hosting the NCAA Regional in May.Â
"We are very proud of the second-place finish; things could have been so much worse after our six-hole start today," said head coach
Scott Varner. "This should give us great confidence about going to Michigan for the national finals."
Northeastern State did get off to a rough start and slipped down as far as fifth on the leaderboard. Nine birdies in the last 13 pins by the RiverHawks allowed them to bounce back to runner up. Â
Hang took the medalist title by three shots with a 153 score (76-77).Â
Kaylee Petersen shot a 164 (82-82) and was tied for 13th overall,
Nina Lee was a shot back tied for 15th (84-81).Â
Aitana Hernandez finished tied for 21st on a 166 score (86-80), and
Kelly Swanson had a 174 (87-87).
Central Oklahoma beat out NSU by ninth shots with all teams except for Central Missouri competing this week at the tournament.Â
Northeastern State will head next to Kansas for the Newman Invitational on April 6-7 in Newton.
