Softball continues homestand

TAHLEQUAH – NSU softball (6-4) continues its homestand hosting Drury and Missouri S&T for doubleheaders at RiverHawks Park this weekend. The Panthers visit Saturday while the Miners will be in town Sunday.

THE SCHEDULE
  • Saturday, March 6 - 1:00/3:00 p.m. - Drury
  • Sunday, March 7 - 12:00/2:00 p.m. – Missouri S&T
THE LEAD OFF
  1. NSU went 3-1 in the NSU/Cherokee Nation Festival last weekend to open the open slate. Catcher Alyssia Crick blasted five home runs and slugged 2.600 across the four games.
  2. Multiple RiverHawks are having hot starts at the plate in 2021, there are six NSU players batting over .300. Freshman designated player Chloe Bohuslavicky is hitting .455 with four home runs on the season while transfer Rhomie Bradshaw boasts a .444 average at the plate.
  3. With 52 career wins in the circle, Gail Young is eight off from Kayce Wooldridge (2013-16), who holds NSU's NCAA era mark for wins by a starting pitcher. 
  4. NSU is led by head coach Clay Davis who has won 210 in his nine years at the helm of the RiverHawks program.
ABOUT THE FOES
Drury – 4-3 overall
  • The RiverHawks are 8-6 versus the Panthers all-time and have won the last three.
  • The teams have not met for a series in nearly 10 years, with the doubleheader on March 9, 2011 split in Tahlequah.
  • They had their first eight games canceled and hosted the Drury Invitational last weekend. The Panthers' lone losses are to MIAA members Nebraska-Kearney and Northwest Missouri.
  • Drury sandwiched NSU into two home series as it hosts Missouri Western and Pitt State.
  • Seven batters are hitting .350 or better and Lauren Beier has an OPS of 1.885.
  • At the helm is third-year head coach Jerry Breaux who guided Drury to 36 wins last season.
Missouri S&T – 0-6 overall
  • The Miners opened their season last weekend. At the TMZ Tournament, they fell to MIAA members Missouri Western and Missouri Southern.
  • NSU holds a 5-2 advantage all-time, but both losses came at RiverHawks Park in 2017. The programs first met in 2005.
  • The Miners play at Rogers State Saturday before making the trip down to Tahlequah.
  • Are led by sixth-year head coach Cathy Monroe.
Up next: NSU opens the conference slate by hosting Central Oklahoma and Newman next weekend at RiverHawks Park.
