TAHLEQUAH – Following two weekends on the road Northeastern State softball returns to RiverHawks Park to host #24 Rogers State Saturday for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
THE LEAD OFF
- The RiverHawks are 20-13-1 on the season and 8-7-1 in conference play. In Tahlequah, the RiverHawks are 11-5.Â
- Admission is free and fans are asked to socially distance the best they can at the ballpark.
THE BIG BATS
- There are six batters hitting over .289 for the RiverHawks.
- Freshman designated player Chloe Bohuslavicky leads the team in hitting at .358 and has eight home runs on the season. Rhomie Bradshaw is not far behind and batting .352 with 19 extra base hits. Alyssia Crick leads the run scoring effort with 11 home runs to go with 31 RBI and is second in the conference with a .829 slugging percentage. She gets on base at the sixth-best percentage in the MIAA and she and Bradshaw rank one and two in conference home runs, respectively.
- Carly Kelly, who was out with injury, has made her return to the lineup in a big way and moved over from third to play second base. She is hitting .350. Addy Wolfe (.300) and Addie Elbon (.289) make up the other two in the lineup. NSU's shortstop, Megan Green, is third in the conference with 19 walks and gets on base at a .391 clip.
- NSU leads the conference with 43 long balls, 11 more than the next best, which is fourth nationally and is fifth nationally in doubles (60). The RiverHawks' team slugging percentage of .521 is 20th of all Division II teams that have played 20 or more games.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Gail Young (13-6) has thrown 12.1 more innings than any other conference pitcher and her 14 complete games is the third-most nationally. She has 58 wins in her career, two off of Kayce Wooldridge (2013-16), who holds NSU's NCAA era mark for wins by a starting pitcher.Â
- NSU's top pitchers, Young and Jenna Chassie, combined have a 3.26 ERA. Chassie has nine quality starts.
LAST WEEKEND RECAPÂ
- NSU split its series at Pitt State and fell in walk-off fashion to Missouri Southern before the second game ended in a tie due to lightning. It was the first tie for NSU since modern scorekeeping was kept.
- Bohuslavicky had a hit in each game and hit two home runs over the two games. She is riding a six-game reached base streak and with three-straight two-hit games.
ABOUT THE FOE
#24 Rogers State 22-11-1 (10-6 in MIAA) – Saturday April 17 12/2 p.m.
- NSU holds a 10-6 advantage since 2014 but RSU has won the last five.
- The Hillcats hosted Arkansas Tech Tuesday for a doubleheader and took the first game before lightning forced a tie in the fifth inning.
- There are six players hitting over .300. RSU hits .294, the same as NSU. Elexis Watson is a dangerous bat as she is hitting .337 with nine home runs.
- The Hillcats lead the conference with a 2.13 ERA which is 30th nationally for a staff. The top two pitchers, Andrea Morales and M'Kayla Hillman, rank first and third in the MIAA and combine to sport a 1.70 ERA.
UP NEXT: NSU makes its final road trip next weekend. It's a long one as the RiverHawks meet Nebraska Kearney Friday and Fort Hays State Saturday.
