BETHANY – Northeastern State pounded six extra-base hits and had no trouble taking care of Southern Nazarene 13-2 in the first game of their doubleheader Saturday.
Brock Reller hit a pair of doubles and had a five-RBI game,
Blake Freeman had three hits and two RBI, and
Blaze Brothers scored four runs and smashed three hits from the NSU leadoff spot.
The RiverHawks scored their runs in bunches, with three coming in the opening frame and every other inning. In the seventh, things got ugly for SNU, with the RiverHawks slapping three straight doubles on the Crimson Storm and hanging a four-spot on the scoreboard.
Northeastern State out-hit Southern Nazarene 14-to-6 with the Crimson Storm (1-6) committing four errors.
Jonathan Smithey (1-1) went six innings and struck out two batters.
Spencer Carlin came in and tossed a clean seventh to finish the contest.
The RiverHawks improved to 4-2 overall and have taken the first three games of the series.
