TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State closes its three-game series with intrastate rivals Central Oklahoma Tuesday in Edmond.
The RiverHawks (25-12, 14-9 MIAA) take the MIAA's longest active win streak at seven into the contest, trying to prevent a series sweep from the Bronchos.
Central (22-14, 14-9 MIAA) won the first game in Edmond, 3-0, and then took a 9-1 contest at Rousey Field. The Bronchos' pitching staff limited NSU to five hits in each game and struck out at least 12.
With both teams tied in the MIAA, a win Tuesday for the RiverHawks gives them a game lead over UCO in the standings, and victory 150 for NSU head coach
Jake Hendrick. However, Central would have the tiebreaker if the pair would find themselves even at the end of the season.
Blake Freeman, by all accounts, positioned himself as second in the nation in hits with 64, trailing the national leader by four. With 21 stolen bases, Freeman is tied for the single-season lead at NSU with Ryan Hanna (1998).
Brock Reller is tied for third nationally with 17 homers, three back of the national leader.
First pitch from Wendell Simmons Field in Edmond is at 5 p.m.
