TAHLEQUAH – Riding a six-game win streak, Northeastern State is on the road this weekend, visiting Northwest Missouri on Saturday and then Missouri Western on Sunday.
The RiverHawks (19-16) have won seven of their last eight and hold the second-longest active streak within Association members. Holding a 7-3 MIAA mark, NSU is in fifth in the standings and a game back of Nebraska-Kearney. A fourth or better finish in the MIAA standings will give NSU a home postseason series.
Northwest Missouri heads into the weekend 6-29 and is winless in ten MIAA contests. The Bearcats have lost its last nine and have been run-ruled in six of their previous seven contests. In the circle, they allow an MIAA high 8.44 runs per game, issuing 116 walks, and have hit 33 batters. They are tied with Central Missouri at the plate with the lowest batting average (.266) and have struck out an MIAA high 207 times.
Northeastern State is 12-15 against the Bearcats and is 2-4 when facing them in Maryville.
Missouri Western is 17-16 (7-5 MIAA) and faces Rogers State on Saturday prior to hosting NSU. The Griffons head into the weekend with a modest three-game win streak. At the plate, they are one spot below NSU in 11th, hitting .273 through 33 games, and like the RiverHawks don't run much with 12 stolen bases (NSU has 11). The Griffs are fifth in earned run average (3.53) in the circle and have allowed an MIAA low 14 home runs.
The RiverHawks are 4-25 against Missouri Western and winless at St. Joseph in six tries.
Northeastern State is 14th nationally in home runs (41), with
Chloe Bohuslavicky 14th overall with 11 long balls.
Sydney Balderrama has ranked 22nd nationally as the toughest to strikeout.
