TAHLEQUAH – An early goal by
Davi Dornelles wasn't enough Saturday as Northeastern State fell 2-1 to No. 17 Southern Nazarene at DeLoache Field.
Dornelles netted his first goal of the season on a strike from just outside of the box and hooking over the SNU goalkeeper in the 14th minute.
Mung Mang nearly gave NSU a two-score advantage in the 30th minute minute on a breakaway but his shot hit the left post.
The Storm (9-3-2, 7-1 GAC/MIAA) got the equalizer with under two minutes left in the first half off a deflection and got the go-ahead point in the 65th minute.
Southern Nazarene limited NSU's offensive chances to just two shots in the second half and had a 15-to-5 shot advantage on the RiverHawks. Dornelles had both of NSU's on-target attempts at the SNU goal.
Northeastern State (6-4-3, 4-3-1 GAC/MIAA) heads to Fort Hays State Thursday evening for their longest GAC/MIAA tilt of the season before returning home Saturday afternoon to host Newman.
