WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Northeastern State displayed a valiant effort on the offensive side, but the RiverHawks were dealt a 2-1 setback against No. 8 Central Missouri once the dust settled Sunday afternoon.
Central Missouri came out firing early, scoring two goals in the first half in the 11th and 41st minutes to take a 2-0 lead before the half.
Josie Jarvis connected on her first goal as a RiverHawk in the 75th minute to keep NSU alive in the closing portion of the match. Despite that, they could only find one attempt across the contest's last fifteen minutes, leading to the one-goal defeat.
The RiverHawks equaled the shot output of the opposing Jennies, with both teams recording 12 attempts apiece. NSU totaled more shots on-goal, with seven to UCM's five.
On-goal attempts were registered by five different RiverHawks, with
Whitney Gentry and
Lexis Walls leading the group with two each. Gentry also provided an assist to Jarvis on her second-half goal.
The loss is NSU's third across their last four, bringing them to 3-5-4 (1-3-1 MIAA), while UCM advanced to 9-2-1 (4-0-1 MIAA).
Northeastern State continues MIAA play as they return to DeLoache Field on Friday, Oct. 13, taking on Fort Hays State at 7 p.m.
