SEARCY, Ark. – Three different players scored as Northeastern State (8-5-4, 6-4-2 GAC/MIAA) finished out the regular season with their ninth shutout of 2023 as they defeated Harding (6-11-1, 4-8 GAC/MIAA) in a 3-0 effort Saturday afternoon.
NSU broke the ice by finding their first make of the day in the 36th minute off a score from Miguel Carrasquinho, assisted by Ivan Lopez and Davi Dornelles. It marked the first goal of Carrasquinho's collegiate career, and the freshman's offensive efforts gave NSU a 1-0 lead that they carried into the break.
Dornelles, in his final regular season match as a RiverHawk, scored the second goal of the contest on an unassisted try in the 79th minute. The conversion is the senior's second of the season and the third of his NSU career.
Luis Felipe Karam was on the receiving end of Dornelles' second assist of the matchup when he found the back of the net in the 83rd minute, providing another big play to round out Saturday's action.
Overall, Northeastern State outshot the Bison 17-12, with 12 of NSU's attempts coming in the second half. Today's result is NSU's sixth straight shutout win over HU.
The RiverHawks return to the GAC/MIAA Semifinals next week as the tournament's fourth seed. A matchup against the conference's top seed in Southern Nazarene awaits, set to take place Friday, Nov. 10.
