ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Jaeden Rosenquist cleared the bases with a double in the third inning, but it would not be enough Saturday evening as Henderson State edged the RiverHawks 4-3.
NSU left ten runners on, with Rosenquist's double being the lone extra-base hit. She would reach in all four trips to the plate and finished the opening weekend batting a team-best .455.
Savannah Evans (0-1) had two hits while pitching 5.1 innings as NSU's starter in the circle.
Henderson State (2-1) overtook the RiverHawks in the fifth after they opened the frame with a walk and double. Both the tying run and eventual winning run would not leave the infield.
The Reddies did miss an opportunity to extend their lead in the sixth after loading the bases with one out. Madison Heinle closed the door with back-to-back strikeouts swinging.
In the seventh, Addy Wolfe drew a one-out walk to get the go-ahead run at the plate, but NSU would fly out and strike out to end the game.
Northeastern State falls to 1-3 to start the year, and they will return to action Friday in Bentonville.
