TAHLEQUAH – Due to weather, Northeastern State softball will now host Rogers State on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. at RiverHawks Park.
The doubleheader starts the 26-game MIAA slate for both programs. Rogers State will come to Tahlequah, holding the top ranking in the latest NFCA Coaches Poll. The Hillcats are 19-2 to start the season and split a non-conference home doubleheader with Arkansas Tech Tuesday in Claremore.
RSU's Sara Llamas-Howell has claimed two MIAA Pitcher of the Week Honors this season and is 9-0 in 13 appearances. The junior has struck out 57 batters in 56 innings, allowing just six runs. Rogers State's pitching staff holds a 1.98 team ERA, which is 14 lowest in NCAA D-II softball this season.
Northeastern State is 14-6 to start the season and will counter RSU with its bats and the ability to hit the long ball. The RiverHawks have hit 36, third most in NCAA-II, with junior
Chloe Bohuslavicky, tied for first nationally with 12 homers. Bohuslavicky already needs one homer to tie the program single-season mark, which she set one season ago.
Savannah Evans is a threat at the plate and in the circle. The junior was the most recent MIAA Hitter of the Week and has seen her batting average climb to nearly .500. Evans is 19th nationally with 11 starts and has five complete games.
An item to note for fans is that all the remaining home games this season are ticketed gate entry. General admission tickets for doubleheaders are $5. Both games will be streamed live on TheMIAANetwork.com/nsugoriverhawks (PPV).
