TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State plays its first MIAA road series Friday where they will play three games against Washburn in Topeka, Kansas.
RiverHawks and Ichabods split postseason meetings last year, with Washburn getting the best of NSU in the MIAA Tournament. The two faced each other again in the NCAA Central Regional, with the RiverHawks ending Washburn's season on a walk-off
Matt Kaiser single.
The last time the two teams met in the regular season turned out to be a few of the craziest games in NCAA D-II during the 2022 season. After an NSU 4-0 win in the opener, both teams split the series' final two games with a combined 81 runs scored. The highlight was a 24-23 ten inning win for the RiverHawks, with four runs being scored in the bottom frame.
Northeastern State will get Washburn, riding the longest current winning streak in Division II baseball at 12 games, and are the lone undefeated team in MIAA play. The Ichabods (13-7, 6-0 MIAA) are 8-0 at home this season after going 13-8 in 2022.
The RiverkHawks (9-8, 3-3 MIAA) have won the previous two regular season series and hold a 19-14 series lead over Washburn.
Brayden Rodden has reached base in eight consecutive games, and
Blake Freeman is seventh among active players in NCAA Baseball with 261 hits and third overall with 57 doubles.
Game one on Friday starts at 3 p.m., and the two teams will meet Saturday again at 2 p.m., with the series concluding on Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games will be streamed live on TheMIAANetwork.com/nsugoriverhawks (PPV).
