ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Northeastern State hit a pair of homers and held off a ninth inning threat by Missouri Western, and won 3-2 on Saturday. The win clinched NSU's second consecutive MIAA series and moved them to 14-16 (8-11 MIAA)
C.D. White hit his third homer of the season, and Kademon Graff blasted his second of the year to score a pair of runs in the third inning. Missouri Western grabbed a run back in the fourth on a sac fly before Coby Tweten did the same in the sixth, bringing in Isaiah Keller from third base to keep it a two-run NSU advantage.
The Griffons pulled back within one hitting a solo homer in the seventh.
Northeastern State missed an opportunity to add insurance runs in the eighth, where they loaded the bases with one out. They would come up empty, with their next two batters striking out and hitting into an infield out.
Missouri Western (6-24, 3-16 MIAA) pushed the issue for the RiverHawks in the ninth and got the tying run at second and the winning run at first. Kyle Duffey closed the door on the Griffs, going 1.2 innings for his first save at NSU.
Lee Callison (5-2) threw 99 pitches and went 7.1 innings for the RiverHawks, striking out five Missouri Western batters.
Northeastern State closes out its series with MWSU on Sunday at noon.
