JOPLIN, Mo. —
Blake Freeman had a four-RBI afternoon, but Northeastern State would be edged 8-7 Saturday by Missouri Southern.
The RiverHawks had to dig themselves out of a six-run deficit, with the Lions scoring four in the opening frame and adding a pair in the second inning.
NSU's bats fought back and tied the game at 6-6 in the seventh, with
Matt Kaiser hitting a two-run homer on a 1-2 pitch to right field. Missouri Southern (36-10, 23-6 MIAA) countered in the bottom half of the inning, hitting their lone home run to go up by two.
A pair of doubles in the eighth got NSU back within a run, but their final four batters retired in order.
Coby Tweten scored three runs and had three hits, and Freeman had a double and homer.
The RiverHawks out-hit the Lions 13-to-9 and dropped to 18-24, 12-17 MIAA. Northeastern State closes its series out Sunday at 1 p.m.
