TAHLEQUAH – Fort Hays State hit a three-run homer in the fifth to down Northeastern State 6-3 on Friday afternoon.
Matt Kaiser had two of the RiverHawks' six hits as they fall to 15-19 overall (9-13 MIAA).
Isaiah Keller smashed a solo homer in the second inning, and it would take a ball that nicked the glove of NSU starter
Lee Callison that allowed the Tigers to plate the tying run in the fourth.
Fort Hays (16-23, 6-16 MIAA) took its first lead of the series, hitting a three-run homer to left in the fifth. They added one more in the sixth, and in the seventh, a two-out single extended the Tigers' lead to 6-1 on the RiverHawks.
Kaiser stopped the bleeding for the RiverHawks in the seventh, scoring
Ty Van Meter on a single through the right side to make the FHSU deficit four.
Brayden Rodden closed the gap to three hitting his fourth long ball of the season on the second pitch of his at-bat in the eighth.
Callison (4-3) went six innings and threw 100 pitches as NSU starter. The senior struck out five batters and walked one.
Kyle Duffey and
Cole White threw a scoreless frame in relief.
Northeastern State and the Tigers close out the series on Saturday at noon.
