TAHLEQUAH –
Ivan Lopez scored his first two goals in a Northeastern State uniform Sunday as they handled Missouri S&T 3-1 at DeLoache Field.
The RiverHawks improved their record to 1-0-1 on the year with Missouri S&T (0-1-1) having a 13-to-11 shot advantage over NSU.
Lopez, an NJCAA All-American transfer, tallied the team's goal of the year in the 19th minute off a pass from
Marcovich Brown.
Ten minutes into the second half Brown landed a solid pass to
Mario Sapena for his second assist of the match to give NSU a 2-nil advantage.
Lopez scored his second of the game on his own in the 61st minute kicking the ball over a Missouri S&T keeper who was playing too far up front for the open net goal.
The Miners scored their first goal of the season in the 65th minute and had an opportunity to get within one on a penalty kick. However, NSU goalkeeper
Ian Milla dove right for the block for his fifth save of the afternoon.
Northeastern State heads to Memphis, Tenn. this upcoming week for a neutral site contest Friday with UIndy.
