MEMPHIS, Tenn. – No. 24 Northeastern State fought a closely-contested defensive battle with UIndy, but a 76th minute goal proved to be the difference, as the Greyhounds handed the RiverHawks a 1-0 setback Friday night.
The loss is NSU's first of the 2023 season, placing their record at 1-1-1 with the first week of the regular season in the books, while UIndy moved to 2-0 with the win.
Opportunities on offense weren't plentiful in the first half, as just five shots were taken across both sides in the first 45 minutes. The offenses found more openings in the second half, but the Greyhounds outshot the RiverHawks 7-4 throughout the period and found the game-winner with under 15 minutes to play.
Ben Mings and
Ivan Lopez recorded NSU's only shots on goal across the evening, while goalkeeper
Ian Milla notched his second-straight five save performance.
The RiverHawks continue their stay in Memphis through the weekend, facing McKendree on Sunday, Sep. 10 at 1 p.m.
