PITTSBURG, Kan. – The RiverHawks had three players in double-figures but Pittsburg State pulled away in the third quarter to down Northeastern State 72-62 on Saturday.
Tor'e Alford put down 18 points matching her season high and her largest offensive output in the last six contests.
Halie Jones scored 15 landing three of NSU's eight overall trifectas.
Courtney Lee hit double-double figure points for the sixth consecutive game with 13 points and paced the squad with six rebounds.
Northeastern State (9-10, 5-8 MIAA) held the advantage over the Gorillas through the early going. A Pitt State layup with seven seconds remaining in the second stanza put the RiverHawks back 36-34 heading into the half.
Madina Camara evened the game with the opening bucket of the third quarter but it would be the last time the game would be tied. The RiverHawks shot 5-for-14 in the period allowing the Gorillas to expand their lead to double digits.
Trailing by ten into the fourth quarter, the RiverHawks' offense returned to form but they would not be able to out-match the Gorillas into the stretch run as they dropped their 17th straight to Pitt State.
The Gorillas (14-5, 8-5 MIAA) were led by Macie Mays who had 25 points Saturday.
Northeastern State returns home Thursday to open a three-game homestand with Emporia State at 5:30 p.m.
