TAHLEQUAH — Northeastern State fell victim to a pair of late goals in a Thursday night bout with Fort Hays State, being dealt a resulting 4-2 setback.
The Tigers (10-3-2, 7-2-1 GAC/MIAA) were early aggressors, scoring in the second minute before following up in the 40th and out-shooting the RiverHawks (2-7-6, 2-4-3 GAC/MIAA) seven-to-one across the opening half. Carl Murch logged NSU's lone attempt for the period as FHSU took a 2-0 lead to the break.
In the following half, the RiverHawks found their needed response, scoring in the 53rd and 63rd minutes with makes from Javier Solis and Assanie Brown. Both unassisted goals marked the second in the duo's respective seasons and brought the matchup even at two scores apiece with less than a third of time left. The duel stayed evenly contested until the final ten minutes, when a late barrage of offense saw the Tigers land back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart in the 81st and 83rd minutes.
NSU remains at home for Saturday's afternoon meeting against Newman, kicking off at 1 pm.
