TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State claimed their first home contest at RiverHawks Park in 2024 with a 2-1 win over Missouri S&T before losing a close 3-2 late meeting against the Miners.
With the opener's triumph, the RiverHawks (4-10) snapped an eight-game winless drought. In the encounter,
Madison Heinle had a four-strikeout afternoon stellar performance inside the circle, keeping the opposition off the scoreboard for six innings and only allowing a single run in the seventh to hold onto the win.
Emily Sampson provided a spark from her bat with two hits, while Sampson and
Maddie Messenger brought home NSU's two runs.
Offense was just as difficult for both sides to find in the second game. After giving up a hit to the first batter faced in the opening frame,
Korynn Tindel did not surrender her second until there were two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
The redshirt freshman struck out four, though three errors proved costly, as the Miners (4-8) found enough life with two unearned runs to prove the difference.
Sampson continued to be a highlight for the offense, with a double alongside
Drew Hawkins, who drove in one of the team's two runs with a double of her own.
Northeastern State continues the homestand with Rockhurst opening the team's March slate on Mar. 3.
