TAHLEQUAH – Early errors in the opener and late runs in the nightcap handed the RiverHawks a pair of non-conference losses Sunday to Rockhurst. Northeastern State dropped the first game 6-3 and lost the second 6-2.
Allison Zanca had two RBI for the RiverHawks in game one during the fifth inning with
Macie Sawney and
Addy Wolfe both having two hits in game one.
The RiverHawks committed four infield errors, with all five of Rockhurst's runs coming unearned in the opening three innings.
Madison Heinle (4-5) fanned four batters and spun 111 pitches.
In the nightcap, it would take until the fourth inning for Rockhurst to register a hit and it would come off a sac fly. The Hawks added one more in the sixth before the RiverHawks tied the game in the bottom half of the frame.
Rockhurst (5-7) pulled back ahead in the seventh getting a go-ahead run on a single to left field. They added one more on an error and scored a pair off a homer to center field.
The RiverHawks left nine runners on base with three batters having a pair of hits.
Elisha Stilwell (0-4) struck out three batters and went 6.2 innings inside the circle.
Northeastern State (4-12) will go on the road Tuesday to face Southeastern Oklahoma for continued non-conference action.
