HOT SPRINGS, Ark. -- #17 Southern Arkansas flipped 11 base hits into 19 runs across five innings in a 19-2 rain-shortened Saturday date with Northeastern State at Majestic Park.
The RiverHawks (0-3) couldn't contain the Muleriders (2-1) early, as SAU recorded five runs in the opening inning and scored in every stanza after, highlighted by a nine-run fourth frame in the 17-run win.
NSU mustered some resistance on the offensive end later on with a run scoring in the fourth and fifth courtesy of solo home runs from
Tyson Fourkiller and
Duncan Key, their firsts of the season and their careers at NSU, respectively. Key recorded an additional base hit to account for two of the team's three in the evening contest.
C.J. Briley was assigned a loss in his first start of the year after surrendering eight runs and seven that were earned in three innings, while
Jessie Moreno III,
Tagen Conary,
Cristian Hernandez and
Wes Strand all saw work in relief.
