RiverHawks dominate Crimson Storm, claim two victories

TAHLEQUAH – C.D. White logged eight base hits and hit two home runs while driving in 12 runs in a doubleheader that saw Northeastern State take two wins against Southern Nazarene at Rousey Field Friday.

In the early game, the RiverHawks (3-4) took an 18-8 victory that ended in seven innings. After they fell behind early, allowing six runs in the first two to the Crimson Storm (3-3), White cut the SNU advantage in half in the bottom of the third inning with a three-RBI triple (6-3). It kicked off a run of offense that carried the rest of the game, where the RiverHawks scored in every inning to follow.

Among the highlights of this offensive onslaught included a five-run output in the fourth and an eight-run sixth, with Isaiah Keller, Korben Ford, White, Ty Van Meter, Austin Albright, Duncan Key and Matt Kaiser all finishing the matchup with runs batted in. White finished with four hits, while Albright netted three and Van Meter and Kaiser finished with two.

Meanwhile, Jessie Moreno III was credited with the win after staying the course on the hill for 4.2 innings, where he only surrendered one run and struck out four batters.

In the late game, a solid start from C.J. Briley, where he did not give up an earned run, and three scoreless innings pitched to follow by Ian Mason was supplemented by a 13-hit performance en route to a 17-3 win.

NSU was on the attack at the beginning with a four-run first stanza. The RiverHawks never trailed after and fed off an 11-run sixth to end the game halfway into the following inning.

White hit two home runs amid another four-hit output after falling a homer short of the cycle in the early game to finish the day with eight hits and 12 RBI. Meanwhile, Tyson Fourkiller, Van Meter and Keller finished with multi-hit performances under the lights.

Northeastern State finishes the series with SNU tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. at Rousey Field.
