RiverHawks swept by No. 11 Gorillas

TAHLEQUAH – No. 11 ranked Pittsburg State scored over ten runs in each game Friday as they dropped Northeastern State 13-2 and 11-2 at RiverHawks Park.

The Gorillas (32-2, 6-0 MIAA) used big innings to beat NSU scoring eight runs in the third frame during the opener and a six-run fourth during the nightcap.

Northeastern State scored both of their runs in the opener during the fourth inning with Madison Heinle and Allison Zanca having an RBI.  Addy Wolfe had NSU's lone extra-base hit and scored a run.

In the nightcap, the RiverHawks took a 1-0 lead in the third off a Macie Sawney double to left field.  The advantage was shortlived for NSU and the Gorillas overtook the RiverHawks with a six-run fourth. NSU's other run came in the bottom half of the inning with Maddie Messenger hitting her second homer of the season.

The RiverHawks (5-20, 0-8 MIAA) will see their losing streak hit eight games matching a season-high for the team.  NSU will return to action on Saturday to host Missouri Southern for a doubleheader starting at noon.
