EMPORIA, Kan. -- Northeastern State finished with 14 base hits en route to a game three victory to claim the series over Emporia State in a 10-3 Saturday decision.
The RiverHawks (15-15, 6-10 MIAA) went after the Hornets (15-16, 6-10 MIAA) early, as they claimed the first six runs of the afternoon across the first four innings. A brief response in the form of a two-run bottom of the fourth for ESU allowed the Hornets to cut the lead down to four, but three more scores in the fifth reasserted NSU's command over the ballgame. The teams scored a run apiece in the eighth frame, but any late offense from the Hornets proved to not be enough to muster a major challenge.
C.D. White was a standout player both on the mound and inside the batter's box. The senior pitched eight innings and receiving his second winning credit of the campaign behind nine strikeouts with two walks and a single surrendered earned run across the afternoon. At the plate, he tied with
Tyson Fourkiller for a team-high three base hits.
Offensively,
Gage Williams led the way with four runs batted in, including two off of his second triple of the campaign. Meanwhile,
Ty Van Meter soloed in the second for his first home run of the season, while he scored his second run of the day in the fifth off a
Korben Ford homer.Â
