TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State claimed a non-conference home win at Rousey Field Tuesday over Randall in a 7-5 finish, where four runs in the last three innings assisted the RiverHawks in ending a five-game losing skid.
After claiming a 1-0 start thanks to a
Tyson Fourkiller run in the opening inning, Northeastern State (10-10, 1-5 MIAA) fell behind after three runs scored in the top of the third from the Randall offense. NSU found a response in the following stanza with a two-run showing, highlighted by an RBI double from
Coby Tweten, but the Saints matched them to retake the lead in the fifth (5-3).
Following the end of starting pitcher Ryan Maynard's day after the sixth inning, the Randall bullpen had lesser success in containing the NSU offense, while errors in the field proved costly, too. Of the four runs that scored in the seventh and eighth for the RiverHawks, only one was earned against a Randall reliever.
Tweten's four-hit day accounted for nearly half of the host's ten hits, while Fourkiller provided another three.
Cole White picked up the win in relief with a two-strikeout performance in the eighth and ninth.
Northeastern State goes on the road for a series from Friday to Sunday in Kansas against Fort Hays State.
