TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State dropped the second game of the weekend series against #8 Missouri Southern in a 13-9 defeat Saturday night.
Both sides found early offense, with MSSU (32-10, 19-7 MIAA) scoring a run to begin the evening, with NSU (19-22, 10-16 MIAA) taking an early advantage after the first inning thanks to a two-run homer from
Gage Williams. The Lions evened the matchup up with a score in the second, and the hosts would never lead again.Â
The Lions found their biggest production from the fourth inning, where they saw four runs land home. A multi-run sixth from the RiverHawks did not do much to build back consistent momentum, as the visiting side landed three more in the sixth and four across the eighth and ninth en route to a series-clinching win.
The RiverHawks found a two-hit performance from Williams and
Matt Kaiser, who also homered with a grand slam in the setback.
Drake Sisemore was given the loss after allowing five runs over 3.1 innings in a starting role.
The series wraps up Sunday with first pitch at 1 p.m. at Thomas C. Rousey Field.
