TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State recorded eight base hits, yet it translated to just a single run across Sunday's seven inning encounter with #8 Missouri Southern.
The RiverHawks (19-23, 10-17 MIAA) fell victim to another quick start from the Lions (33-10, 20-7 MIAA), as the visiting team scored three in the first inning. They'd claim six more in an unanswered fashion over the next three innings before a solo home run from
Korben Ford in the bottom of the fifth gave NSU their first run of the afternoon. MSSU added two more to their tally to finish the matchup after the seventh inning.
Despite eight base hits, Northeastern State left eight men on base and logged three errors in the field during the Sunday setback.
Tyson Fourkiller and
Matt Kaiser had multi-hit games, while
Gage Williams added to his successful series against the eighth-ranked Lions with a double.
C.D. White was tagged with the loss in a starting spot, while
Kyle Duffey and
Cole White saw time on the mound in relief. White was responsible for three of the trio's six strikeouts.
Northeastern State finishes the homestand Tuesday at 2 p.m. in a non-conference battle with Northwestern Oklahoma at Thomas C. Rousey Field.
