RiverHawks swept by Bison

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State struggled to find regular scoring plays when facing Oklahoma Baptist in a midweek doubleheader at RiverHawks Park Tuesday, going down in 3-0 and 8-1 results.

The opening contest saw the RiverHawks (8-33) limited to four base hits against OBU (34-11) in the shutout defeat. Brynn Burchfield tripled on NSU's first at-bat of the early evening and added another base hit across three trips into the batter's box, while Emily Sampson recorded a hit, in addition to Vic Leslie.

Korynn Tindel went five innings and allowed two OBU runs in the second, while the Bison found their third with Madison Heinle in the circle for Northeastern in the top of the sixth.

The late matchup was a more competitive display from the offense, as they finished with seven base hits and Burchfield added on to her stellar evening with an RBI single in the fifth inning. However, seven NSU players were left on base across the game to make up the differential in the final score, while OBU turned ten base hits into eight runs to conclude the doubleheader.

Maddie Messenger and Macie Sawney ended the second game with two hits, with Messenger providing the team's lone extra base hit in the contest with a double in the bottom of the sixth.

The RiverHawks will be back in action in Alva, Okla. on Apr. 23 for an encounter with another opponent from the Great American Conference (GAC) in Northwestern Oklahoma.
