SHAWNEE, Okla. – Northeastern State started strong with a four-run opening frame, but fell to Oklahoma Baptist at Bobby Cox Field at Ford Park in non-conference action Tuesday evening.
NSU (17-18) had a four-run beginning led by three scoring plays, with an RBI from
Ty Van Meter,
Brooks Miller and
C.D. White each. A two-run second for OBU (22-13) set the stage for an early end to the day for Tuesday starter
Preston Pattison for the RiverHawks and cut the visitor's lead in half.
The entire contest saw action from both teams from the batter's box, but the RiverHawks only translated their offensive work the rest of the night into three runs, and never more than one in a single frame. Meanwhile, the bullpen struggled to find consistent resistance against the OBU bats, as the Bison scored three in the fifth and four in the eighth to defend their ground.
Gage Williams led NSU with three base hits, while
Brooks Miller and
Ty Van Meter drove in multiple runs.
Kyle Duffey received his second loss of the season in relief over a contest where none of the team's five arms saw more than three innings of action.
Drake Sisemore led the group in strikeouts at three on the evening.
Northeastern State begins a three-game series with conference rival Rogers State Friday in Claremore.
