CLAREMORE –
Tyson Fourkiller had NSU's first five-hit game since 2016 as the RiverHawks downed Rogers State 10-4 on Friday in Claremore. Northeastern State scored eight unanswered runs as they won their third consecutive over the Hillcats.
The Stilwell native set the tone at the top of the line-up with himself and
Korben Ford reaching base seven times.
C.D. White had a three-hit, two-RBI game.
Drew Miller drew three walks and
Matt Kaiser scored three runs as the RiverHawks moved back to .500 after 36 games. NSU's 9-12 MIAA mark has them now tied for sixth in the standings with Rogers State.
Northeastern State broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth with a three-run frame. Kaiser scored the go-ahead run on an error with White and
Drew Miller having a RBI.
Fourkiller extended the NSU lead to five with an RBI single in the sixth and after a scoreless inning, they added four more to push the advantage to eight.
Rogers State (18-15, 9-12 MIAA) hit a two-run homer in the eighth and plated their fourth run on a single. Ford scored the RiverHawks' tenth run on a double-play.
CJ Briley went seven innings and allowed one run while issuing just one walk.
Hayden Key and Ford both had scoreless outings from the bullpen.
The RiverHawks host the middle game of the series on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Tahlequah.
