NSU Athletics Announces Class of 2024 Hall of Fame Inductees

TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State University Director of Athletics John Sisemore is proud to announce the Class of 2024 inductees into the NSU Athletics Hall of Fame. Three former student-athletes, one team, and one meritorious inductee who excelled in their respective sports and contributed to the greater good of the university will be celebrated on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the Chota Center, with the doors opening at 6:00 PM. The event will recognize the outstanding contributions of these individuals, who demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill during their time at NSU.
 
2000 Women's Golf | Team (1999-2000) – The 2000 Lady Reds golf team still holds the program's best finish of third in the NCAA National Tournament, which was held at the Texas Star Golf Course in Euless, Texas on May 16-19. They had three team championships  and three runner-up tournament finishes during the 1999-2000 season while also finishing no lower than fourth Place in 10 of the 11 total tournaments that season. Members of the 2000 Lady Reds women's golf team are Ashlea (Benson) Morgan, Lindsey (Brown) Pitt, Jenny Eckert, Shelley (Farmer) Hogue, Jennifer (Huff) Plagens, Jamie (Johnson) Cofer, Jessica Lovinggood, Sara Mobley, and Shay (Thompson) Neal which were head coached by Scott Varner and assisted by Matt Cochran.
 
Derrick Moore | Football (1991) - Moore is an All-American running back who helped lead Northeastern State to a #1 ranking with a 10-1 overall record and a perfect 6-0 OIC record in 1991. NSU made it to the NAIA National Quarterfinals in Moore's lone season with the Redmen. He is a 1992 NSU graduate and was selected in the eighth round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. Moore would go on to play six years in the NFL. He had stops with the Detroit Lions, where he played alongside Hall of Famer, Barry Sanders and was the starting running back in the Carolina Panthers' inaugural season, where he set an expansion rushing record. He finished his playing career with the Arizona Cardinals.
 
Sam Powell | Men's Golf (2005-2009) – Sam is one of NSU's most decorated golfers, highlighted by a 2008 All-American selection and serving as team captain in 2009. He was a First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region selection in the 2007, 2008, and 2009 seasons. Powell became the St. Edwards Tournament Champion in 2008 and played on five straight NCAA Division II Tournament teams, which were ranked in the top 25 all five years. He also played on four Lone Star Conference Champion teams, setting the All-Time LSC record in 2009.
 
Rachael (Christian) Touma | Softball (2006-2007) – Rachael was the driving force in the success of the Northeastern State softball program's first and only trip to the NCAA Division II Regionals in 2007. She played second base and batted third in the lineup. Her 2006 stats were .430 BA, 135 AB, 12 2b, 1 3b, 6 HR, led the team with 33 RBI, Slug% .667, (1 Strike Out) - .986 Fielding%, while her 2007 stats were - .349 BA, 149 AB, 14 2B, 1 3B, 6 HR, tied team leader with 25 RBI, Slug% .577, (3 Strike Outs) - .988 Fielding%. More than her stats, Rachael was a tremendous teammate and leader who was truly instrumental in the softball team's run to the 2007 Regional Tournament. Rachael received individual All-Region honors in both 2006 and 2007 for her season performances.
 
Gregg Wadley | Meritorious/Indigenous (1969 B.S. Math & Physics) - Wadley's transformational philanthropy at NSU began in 2002 when he established an endowment for NSU Athletics, honoring his late father, D.M. "Doc" Wadley, who was NSU's Athletics Director from 1949 to 1969. Major athletics projects that Gregg has contributed to as a lead or significant donor include the 22,500 square-foot indoor practice facility known as The Bubble in 2005, the state-of-the-art NSU Event Center that opened in 2013, and the 2018 Doc Wadley Stadium Sports Medicine Center and Football Locker Room Project.

Ticket prices for the general public to attend the ceremony are $55 per ticket.  Entire tables seating up to eight can also be purchased for $400 per table or $210 for a half table (four tickets).  Tickets can be purchased at: GoRiverHawksGo.com/Tickets.  The deadline to purchase tickets online by August 8th.
