Softball swept at Northwest Missouri

MARYVILLE, Mo. --- Northeastern State was held to three runs across a doubleheader with Northwest Missouri, which saw the hosts claiming two victories on the afternoon in 9-1 and 10-2 results.

The early game saw the RiverHawks fall into a hole early, with five NWMSU runs scoring in the first inning. A slight answer from the visitors followed in the third, as Addy Wolfe scored off a wild pitch, but it would be their only scoring play of the early game. The Bearcats added on with four more runs across the third and fourth innings to end the meeting in the top of the fifth in a 9-1 final.

Six different players finished with base hits for the RiverHawks, while Korynn Tindel received the loss from inside the circle.

Madison Heinle struck out two in relief during game one and got the ball for game two to start. After keeping the Bearcats in check in the opening inning with a shutout first, two runs made it home in the second to give them a 2-0 lead over the RiverHawks.

Heinle tossed two more scoreless innings in the third and fourth, but fell victim to the home run ball on three separate occurrences in the fifth to give the Bearcats a commanding 6-0 lead. A pair of homers in the following frame from NSU, courtesy of Addy Wolfe and Allison Zanca, gave the RiverHawks another chance in the late stages of the contest, but the Bearcats slammed the door in the bottom half of the sixth with another four runs to end the matchup with a 10-2 win.

The RiverHawks drop to 7-28 overall with the pair of losses, in addition to 2-16 in league play, while the Bearcats advance to 19-21 overall and hold an even 8-8 split across contests against league foes.

Northeastern State continues their league slate on the road next week at Newman (Apr. 12) and Central Oklahoma (Apr. 13).
