RiverHawks earn Senior Day sweep

TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State closed its conference home schedule with a sweep of Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday.

During the pre-game festivities, Halle Hance, Avery Tanner, Brooke Wyatt, Ashlynn Turner, Jensyn Elder, Gracie Turner and graduate assistant Macy Taylor were honored.

The RiverHawks (24-17, 11-9 MIAA) claimed game one behind seven shutout innings in the circle. In the 3-0 triumph, Jensyn Elder had the winning start, tossing five innings. Brooke Wyatt earned the save by slamming the door in the last two frames.

Run support came in the form of an Ashlynn Turner solo home run in the fifth inning and a Madison Nance RBI single in the sixth through a sequence that ended with Nance scoring additionally after a UNK error. The base hit was one of two from Nance, tying with Mattison Hamilton for the team lead in the early contest.

NSU earned a 5-4 decision in game two over the Lopers (13-28, 2-10 MIAA). Emily Carpenter drove in the first pair of runs for the RiverHawks on as many hits, but the hosts still entered the bottom of the fifth trailing by multiple scores (4-2). Turner started a three-run inning for the offense by reaching after an error against the visitors, bringing home Peyton Watson in the process. Madison Nance scored after contact from Mia Sarwinski and the outburst finished with Turner crossing on an RBI single from Hamilton.

Aubree Saporito earned the win, while Elder received the save after pitching the last two innings and preserving the team's one-run lead.

The RiverHawks are scheduled to conclude their final homestand with a Tuesday doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist, beginning at 4 p.m.
