Jarrett Byers burst onto the scene in 2005 as a transfer from Coffeyville Community College and the rest was history.  He went on to lead Northeastern State in receiving yards, receptions and touchdowns in 2005 and 2006. The conference took notice in 2007 by selecting him the LSC-N Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year.  An injury however ended his 2007 campaign and to the dismay of many NFL teams, he was granted a medical redshirt and chose to return to the RiverHawks for the 2008 season.  Byers holds the school record for receiving yards in a career with 1, 846, is 12 catches short of breaking Derrick Jacobs record for most receptions in a career and two touchdown catches away from the touchdown reception mark of 21 set by Mark Ross.
