Matt Hodgson begins his third season as Northeastern State’s Defensive Coordinator.

Hodgson, NSU’s Offensive Coordinator in 2001 and 2002, returned to the defensive side of the ball in 2003 where he was responsible for coaching the Redmen linebackers and defensive lineman. This year, Hodgson’s position of responsibility will be the defensive lineman.

Hodgson began his coaching career at NSU in 1997 where he was the offensive line coach as a graduate assistant for two seasons. He was elevated to full-time status in 1999 and coached NSU’s defensive lineman for two seasons before being selected to take over as offensive coordinator in 2001.

Hodgson and head coach John Horner built one of the best defenses in NCAA Division II in 1999 and 2000. Hodgson’s plans are to return the defense to the elite status it once held.

A 1996 graduate from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Hodgson was an outstanding student-athlete for the Rangers. He was a four-year lettermen and played on the defensive line in college.

Hodgson earned his master’s degree from Northeastern State in the late 1990’s.

Hodgson and his wife, Kristy resides in Tahlequah with their son, Gage (3) and new son Wyatt.
