TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The No. 19-ranked Northeastern State men's soccer team used four second-half goals to power past Southern Nazarene 4-1 Saturday night at DeLoache Field.
The RiverHawks (9-3-3, 6-1-2 MIAA) received goals from four different members of the team, including three players who notched their first-career markers. NSU also outshot the Crimson Storm (2-15-0, 2-7-0 MIAA) 34-6.
NSU held a 14-2 shot advantage at intermission, but the home side was unable to find the back of the net in the first half.
Sophomore forward
Juan Peralta ended the drought in the 53rd minute after he finished a pass from senior midfielder
Bo White.
Senior defender
Jordon Smith scored his first goal as a member of the RiverHawks less than a minute later. His marker proved to be the game-winner.
Northeastern State was awarded a penalty kick following a handball in the penalty box on a corner kick in the 69th minute. Sophomore midfielder
Adam Schmoker stepped to the line and calmly buried his first-career goal in the back of the net.
Freshman midfielder
Brandon Carter put his stamp on the party when he also notched his first goal in the 86th minute with help from both White and freshman defender
Paul Samia. Samia collected his first-career point.
The clean sheet would be denied for NSU, however, as Ange-Pierre N'Dri drilled a shot from 30 yards out in the 89th minute that found the frame.
Freshman goalkeeper
Eric Shephard (3-0-1) saved three shots and earned the win after playing the whole 90 minutes. Blake Anderson (2-15-0) suffered the loss after allowing four goals and saving seven shots.
