TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Junior midfielder Renee Valcarcel scored in the 106th minute to give the Northeastern State women's soccer team a 2-1 double overtime victory over Fort Hays State Sunday afternoon at DeLoache Field.

The RiverHawks (9-2-0, 4-2-0 MIAA) outshot the Tigers (7-5-0, 3-4-0) 23-13, and NSU now has 15 points in the league table. The team is tied for fourth in the MIAA and one point behind two others for second place.

“I'm so proud of the way the ladies played today, and I'm even more excited that we were able to come away with the win,” NSU head coach Chase Wooten said. “Fort Hays State really increased their level of play in the second half of the contest, and I'm happy that we were able to match that intensity.”

Junior forward Emily Voges put home the first score of the match in the 10th minute. Sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Cudjoe took a shot on the left from 10 yards out that bounced off the left post directly to the boot of Voges. Cudjoe's shot pulled the keeper off her line, and Voges was able to record her fifth goal of the season.

The scored remained 1-0 in favor of the RiverHawks heading into intermission.

The Tigers came out of the break with a renewed vigor, and it showed as they were able to find the equalizer in the 69th minute. Alexis Aiman took a flip throw-in that bounced over the head of two players. Ember Albertson took advantage of the misplayed ball and flicked it over her head and into NSU's net.

The game took an intensified turn after that moment, and extra sessions were needed after neither team was able to crack the defense.

The winning play began when Cudjoe beat a defender near midfield and took a run along the left side. Her cross into the box found junior midfielder Kaili Endres. Endres took a shot that deflected off a defender and onto the feet of a wide-open Valcarcel, who calmly sent a strike from the right side of goal into the left side netting.

The RiverHawks are on a four-game win streak, which is the longest current streak in the conference.

NSU will now travel to Bolivar, Mo., for a 4 p.m. matchup Oct. 11 with Southwest Baptist (5-5-2, 2-2-2 MIAA).
