KEARNEY, Neb. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team netted its third MIAA victory with a 2-0 win over Nebraska-Kearney at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field Friday afternoon.
The RiverHawks (9-2-0, 3-2-0 MIAA) set the pace against the Lopers (5-6-1, 2-3-1 MIAA) scoring early in the seventh minute of the contest.
Senior midfielder
Renee' Valcarcel received a pass from senior midfielder
Elizabeth Cudjoe from eight yards out and blasted the ball from the right wing to put NSU up 1-0.
The RiverHawks capitalized on another scoring opportunity in the second half when senior forward
Jennifer Clark scored from 18 yards out on an assist from senior forward
Emily Voges and sophomore forward
Lindsey Latta from the right wing in the 57th minute to improve to 2-0.
Nebraska-Kearney outshot Northeastern State 11-10 and had the advantage in corner kicks 6-5.
"It was a tough place to play. Their field is turf, so the surface was fine, but that was one of the top-7 windiest games I've ever been a part of," NSU coach
Chase Wooten said. "We battled hard and got our goals when we needed them."
Clark scored her eighth season goal and. She now has 19 career goals, tying her for fifth in school history. Clark now has 50 career points, and she is solo sixth in school history.

"We played better futbol then we did Sunday, and that makes me happy," Wooten said. "One of the turning points in the match was the disallowed goal on the free kick (midway through the first half). We were giving up corners, deep throws and fouls in our defensive third, and that really calmed the girls down."

Cudjoe now has 12 career assists, leaving her one shy of fifth in school history and also has 36 career points, moving her into 10th place in school history.

Freshman goalkeeper
Jordan Woodruff (9-2) saw 90 minutes of play and tied her career high with nine saves. Woodruff recorded her fifth clean sheet of the season, which ties the school record for most shutouts in a single season (Deb Hill, 2010). Woodruff also has three-straight shutouts, which ties the school record for most consecutive clean sheets (Deb Hill, 2010).

The RiverHawks will remain on the road for the next match scheduled against Fort Hays State at 1 p.m. Oct. 13 in Hays, Kan., at the FHSU Soccer Complex.
