HAYS, Kan. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team registered its fourth-straight shutout with a 1-0 victory over Fort Hays State Sunday afternoon at FHSU Soccer Stadium.
Â
The RiverHawks (10-2, 4-2 MIAA) have rebounded from a 0-2 start to the conference season with four-straight clean sheets, and the squad has jumped up to third place in the standings with 12 points. NSU is just one point behind league leaders Lindenwood and Central Missouri. The Tigers (5-7-2, 1-4-2 MIAA) were coming off their first league win of the season, but couldn't stay with NSU.
Â
Northeastern State outshot the home side 14-8, while the more aggressive Tigers had a 14-7 advantage in fouls.
Â
The game-winning strike came in the 21st minute, when sophomore forward
Lindsey Latta played a ball over the top of the defense to senior forward
Jennifer Clark. Clark outran the back line and collected the ball at the top of the 18. She then beat the keeper and put away her MIAA-leading ninth goal of the season and fifth game winner.
Â
True freshman goalkeeper
Jordan Woodruff (10-2) made five saves and earned her sixth clean sheet of the season. She also has four-straight shutouts, and both feats are new school records.
Â
Clark now has 52 points in her illustrious career (20g-12a), moving her into a tie for fifth in school history with Deborah Brereton (2002-03).
Â
The RiverHawks have also now hit double-digit victories for the third-straight year and for the sixth time in school history. They have three more wins this season than any other school in the MIAA.
Â
Northeastern State will return home in an attempt to maintain its recent momentum. The squad will play host to Southwest Baptist at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at DeLoache Field.

NORTHEASTERN STATE COACH CHASE WOOTEN
"I was happy that we were able to knock it around despite the tornado-like winds. Any time you can go on a long two-game road trip and come back with two wins, it's a good thing. We're no longer nervous in the final 10 minutes with a 1-0 lead. Jordan (Woodruff) made a couple of really nice saves. We have gotten better at that position, and you have to credit the entire defensive unit with that. We still have to play a little better as a team when we get home."
