ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Northeastern State men's basketball team defeated Lindenwood 83-74 Saturday afternoon inside Hyland Arena in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association contest.

The RiverHawks (7-2, 2-0 MIAA) were led by a sensational performance from senior point guard Bryton Hobbs, who dropped a career-high 36 points. The St. Louis, Mo., native, playing in front of his family and friends, shot 10-of-17 from the field, 5-of-8 from downtown and 11-of-14 from the free-throw line. He also added seven assists and three rebounds, playing the entire 40 minutes of the game.

Junior forwards Curtis Evans (12) and Landon DeMasters (10) contributed 22 points to the winning effort.

The Lions (5-5, 1-1 MIAA) suffered just their second home loss of the season and were unable to slow down Hobbs. Darris Smith led Lindenwood with 14 points, while Michael Boos and Tyler Ressel added 13 each and Barrett Reeg chipped in 11.

NSU shot 57 percent (26-for-46) from the field, 42 percent (8-for-19) from behind the arc and 85 percent (23-for-27) at the charity stripe. The Lions shot 44 percent (27-for-62) from the field, 25 percent (5-for-20) from downtown and 83 percent (15-for-18) at the line.

The RiverHawks used a 9-2 run early to find an 18-10 lead midway through the first half, and they were able to keep that margin for the remainder of the opening 20 minutes to take a 41-32 halftime lead. Hobbs scored 24 of his career-high 36 in the first half.

Lindenwood got within six at 46-41 at the 12:55 mark of the second half, but a 13-2 run allowed the visitors to stretch the lead back out the double digits. The Lions made a spirited effort to get back into the game, but the margin proved insurmountable.

NSU returns to Tahlequah on Dec. 19 for a 7:30 p.m. game against Missouri Western State.
