Northeastern State unable to halt impressive Missouri Western State win streak

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Northeastern State baseball team had three cracks to stop the winning streak, but Missouri Western State swept the RiverHawks and has now won 14 games in a row.
 
The Saturday series finale saw MWSU (15-3, 10-0 MIAA) take down NSU (11-10, 11-10 MIAA) 10-3 in nine innings.
 
Junior Ryan Staggs went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove home one of Northeastern State's three runs. The RiverHawks were outhit 13-6 in the game.
 
Senior Trevor Walch (0-1) gave up six runs (three earned) on eight hits in 4.2 innings. Sophomore T.J. Foster, freshman Andrew Walker and senior Brandon Compton also saw action on the mound.
 
Grant Fink and Jimmy Smelcer both went 3-for-4 for the Griffons. Fink and Spencer Shockley both scored three times, and Shawn Egge drove home three runs.
 
Banks Born (2-0) threw 7.0 innings and gave up just one run on five hits. Chris Allen tossed the final 2.0 frames and allowed two runs on one hit.
