The RiverHawks saw their season come to an end with a 19-8 overall record. They tied for third in their first season in the MIAA at 12-6. The Bearcats improved to 20-9 and will face top seed Fort Hays State in the semifinals.

A three-point basket from Anderson at 10:34 sparked a 15-5 run from NSU that tied the game at 64-64 with 3:59 to play.

The RiverHawks went cold from the field the rest of the way, and the Bearcats made 5 of 6 free throws late to advance to the next round.

Northeastern State still has an outside shot of qualifying for the 2013 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship, and the selection show will be held at 9:30 p.m. March 10 on NCAA.com.

NORTHEASTERN STATE COACH LARRY GIPSON
Opening statement…
“Today's game was a hard-fought game. We competed very well. I have to give credit to Northwest Missouri State. I thought their defense bothered us in huge stretches in the game. They really beat us up inside. Dillon Starzl had a heck of a game. They did a great job of getting him the basketball. When we've struggled this year, we haven't come out and been sharp defensively to start the game. That was a little bit of the case today. We simply weren't as good as we needed to be defensively, and that allowed Northwest Missouri to get on the board quickly and gain some confidence. I thought our kids made an excellent comeback. We had the ball once with a one-point lead. We got the ball inside, but we just didn't make the shot. From that point on, they made a few more plays than us. It was a closely-contested game, but I was proud of the effort of our guys.”
