RiverHawks, Tigers Even After Two-Game Set

Northeastern State, Fort Hays State combine for 49 hits, 40 runs, 10 home runs in split

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State baseball team drew with Fort Hays State in an MIAA doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Thomas C. Rousey Field.
 
The RiverHawks (20-17, 20-17 MIAA) captured the first game of the series 9-4, and the Tigers (21-16, 17-15 MIAA) secured the night cap by a 19-8 margin.
 
The two squads combined for 49 hits, 40 runs and 10 home runs in the offensive showcase.
 
The series finale will begin at noon April 14.
 
NSU 9, FHSU 4 (box score)
Both teams plated two runs in the first frame, but a five-run fourth would be the difference as Northeastern State was able to take the opening game of the series. The game was halted for approximately 30 minutes during the fourth due to lightning in the area.
 
Junior Kyle Singleton was 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in, which included a two-run home run in the third inning. Senior Jordan Dallalio hit a two-run homer in the fourth, which marked the fourth-straight game he went yard. Sophomore David Weber scored three times.
 
Senior Craig George (5-3) earned the win on the mound after throwing the first 6.0 innings. He allowed four runs on 10 hits and threw 108 pitches. Junior Addison Williams tossed the final frame and did not give up a hit or a run.
 
FHSU starter Alex Ellison (2-6) took the loss after allowing nine runs on 10 hits in just 3.2 frames. Drew Martineau pitched the final 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit and no runs.
 
Three different Tigers recorded two hits, but NSU outhit the visitors 11-10.
 
FHSU 19, NSU 8 (box score)
The Tigers erupted for 18 hits and overpowered the RiverHawks in the second game of the series. Fort Hays State plated runs in seven of the nine innings and totaled 14 runs in the final five frames after NSU tied the score at 5-5 after four.
 
Clayton Garland, Kelton Rule and Ryan Busboom all had four hits for FHSU. Rule and Busboom both recorded five RBI, and Garland, Rule and Jordan Miller all scored four runs.
 
Tayler Davis (6-2) threw 7.0 innings and earned the win after allowing eight runs on 10 hits. Kyle Leroy tossed the final two frames and did not give up a hit.
 
Sophomore Hayden Walch started for NSU and lasted 3.0 innings. He allowed five runs on five hits before being relieved by senior Frank Sprick. Sprick (2-4) allowed one unearned run, which cost him the decision. He did not concede a hit. Northeastern State ran out four other pitchers.
 
Junior Cody Robinson, the nation's leader in home runs this season, blasted his 15th of the season in the seventh inning. Senior Greg Jackson, Singleton and junior Manuel Marmol also hit home runs.
