Northeastern State plays at home of Tulsa Drillers for second-straight season

TULSA, Okla. – The Northeastern State baseball team dropped a 5-2 decision to Rogers State University Tuesday afternoon at ONEOK Field.
 
The RiverHawks (21-18) and Hillcats (30-13) battled at the home of the Tulsa Drillers for the second-straight year, with RSU picking up its second-straight win in the series.
 
Rogers State, serving as the home team, scored in the first inning to take the early lead. Northeastern State tied the game in the top of the third when junior Cody Robinson recorded a fielder's choice RBI to plate senior Trent Wilkins.
 
The Hillcats responded with two in the home half of the frame and added another pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. NSU could only muster one more run in the game, a marker from senior Chad Davidson in the top of the ninth, as the visitors on the scoreboard lost by the 5-2 margin.
 
Rogers State outhit the RiverHawks 7-5, and the teams combined for seven errors.
 
Wilkins was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored to pace Northeastern State. Sophomore Hayden Walch (3-5) started on the mound and took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits in 3.2 innings. Senior Trevor Walch threw 2.2 innings of relief and did not allow a run or a hit, while striking out four. NSU used three other pitchers.
 
Colton Campbell led the Hillcats with a 1-for-3 day at the plate. He drove home four. Eric Baker and Jose Olazagasti both recorded two hits and combined to score three runs.
 
Jesus Del Rosario allowed one unearned run and one hit in four innings, while taking the no decision. T.J. Law (1-1) earned the win on the mound after tossing 3.0 frames of relief. He did not concede a run and only allowed one hit.
 
NSU will stay out of conference for a doubleheader with Oklahoma Panhandle State University that will begin at 1 p.m. April 17 at Thomas C. Rousey Field.
