Baseball Wins Twice Wednesday

Northeastern State combines for 28 runs in victories over OPSU

Senior Brandon Compton picked up the win in the first game against Oklahoma Panhandle State Wednesday.

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State baseball team defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State University twice Wednesday afternoon at Thomas C. Rousey Field.
 
The RiverHawks (23-18) won the first game 18-3 and picked up a 10-0 decision in the second game. The NSU pitching staff combined to allow just five combined hits in the two games.
 
Northeastern State will celebrate Senior Day April 20 prior to the team's doubleheader against Nebraska Kearney. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Rousey Field.
 
NSU 18, OPSU 3 (box score)
Sophomore Preston Cash led the way for Northeastern State in the first game. He went 4-for-4 with six runs batted in and a pair of runs scored. He also blasted a grand slam in the third inning.
 
Freshman Andrew Walker was 4-for-5 and sophomore David Weber was 3-for-3. They both drove home one run and scored three times. Weber led off the game with a home run. Freshman Cody Begovich also hit a homer.
 
Senior Brandon Compton (1-0) earned his first win of the season after allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits in 4.0 innings. Freshman Wilson Klutts picked up his first save of the year after not allowing a hit in the final three frames.
 
NSU 10, OPSU 0 (box score)
Three pitchers took the mound for the RiverHawks, and they combined to allow just two hits on the day. Sophomore T.J. Foster (3-0) started on the mound and took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. The first OPSU hit of the game came with two outs in the fifth. Fellow sophomore Kyle Shambaugh got an inning of work and struck out two batters. Senior Trevor Walch tossed the final frame and gave up just one hit.
 
Walker was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Senior Jordan Dallalio and Begovich both hit homers. Cash was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a triple. Sophomore Tyler Wilkins was 2-for-2.
 
NSU outhit the Aggies (2-37) 14-2.
